Emma to Star in “Anya’s Ghost”

‘Anya’s Ghost’: Emma Roberts To Star In Dan Mazer-Helmed Supernatural Comedy

DEADLINEEXCLUSIVE: Emma Roberts has been set to star in supernatural comedy Anya’s Ghost. As previously revealed by Deadline, the Dan Mazer-helmed project is based on the award-winning graphic novel by Russian writer and illustrator Vera Brosgol. Jeremy Bolt is producing through his Bolt Pictures as is Benedict Carver via his Bullitt Entertainment. EOne is also producing and will fully finance and distribute worldwide.

Based on a screenplay by A Monster Calls author and screenwriter Patrick Ness, the story follows Anya, an unpopular 16-year-old who gets stranded in an underground cave where she rescues Emily (Roberts), the apparent ghost of a teenage girl who died a century earlier. Initially, Anya thinks her new “friend” may be the best thing that ever happened to her. But the relationship has unforeseen consequences for Anya, her friends and her family.

The original book was published by McMillan imprint Square Fish in 2011, winning the Eisner Award, Harvey Award and Cybils Award.

Roberts (American Horror Story, Scream Queens) has indie drama Who We Are Now screening in the Narrative Spotlight section of SXSW tonight after debuting in Toronto. She’s repped by CAA and Sweeney Entertainment.

Mazer (I Give It A Year, Dirty Grandpa) and Ness are too with CAA. Ness is also repped by Michelle Kass of Michelle Kass Associates and attorney Howard Abramson; and Mazer by 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney George Davis. Brosgol is with ROAR and Judy Hansen of Hansen Literary Management.

Emma to Star in “Paradise Hills”

Emma Roberts, Danielle Macdonald Topline ‘Paradise Hills’ (EXCLUSIVE)

VARIETY – Emma Roberts and Danielle Macdonald (“Patti Cake$”) will star in “Paradise Hills,” which is being brought onto the American Film Market by Good Universe.

Teaming U.S. and Spanish talent, “Paradise Hills” is produced by Spain’s Nostromo Pictures.

The English-language “Paradise Hills” also marks the feature debut of Spain’s Alice Waddington, whose short, “Disco Inferno,” won best director at Austin’s Fantastic Fest.

Written by cult Spanish fantasy sci-fi auteur Nacho Vigalondo (“Colossal”) and Brian DeLeeuw (“Curvature”), Waddington’s feature is set in the not-too-distant future where Uma (Roberts) wakes up one morning in Paradise Hills, a high-class treatment facility on an isolated tropical island where well-off families send their daughters to become perfect versions of themselves.

Buzz on the film, presented as a project at the Austin Fantastic Fest Market, is that it will be visually striking — hardly surprising given Waddington’s “Disco Inferno,” a black and white, stylized tribute to French horror master Georges Franju. It will also retain the strongly female and social-centric focus, in the vein of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” suggested at Austin.

“Paradise Hills” is produced by Nostromo Pictures’ Adrian Guerra and Núria Valls. Its upcoming movies include Rodrigo Cortes’ “Down a Dark Hall,” which Lionsgate will release in the U.S., and “The Kill Team,” with Alexander Skarsgard and Nat Wolff.

Voltage Pictures Repping Foreign for “Little Italy”

Voltage Pictures Repping Foreign On Emma Roberts & Hayden Christensen Pic ‘Little Italy’ – AFM

DEADLINE – Voltage Pictures will be handling foreign sales on the new Emma Roberts and Hayden Christensen romantic comedy Little Italy. Pic will debut during this year’s AFM in Santa Monica, CA.

Directed by Donald Petrie, Little Italy follows Nikki (Roberts), a young chef-in-training, who begins dating her childhood friend Leo (Christensen), a pizza cook with dreams of opening his own restaurant. The only problem is, in the vein of Romeo & Juliet, their fathers own competing pizza restaurants directly next door to each another and their families are lifelong enemies. Raising the stakes is the fact that their mothers are secret best friends and their grandparents are also carrying out a romance of their own. The fathers find out and declare a pizza cook-off war on each other. Vinay Virmani and Pauline Dhillon are producing via their Firsttake Entertainment label. Alyssa Milano, Danny Aiello, Andrea Martin and Jane Seymour also star.

“Scream Queens” Canceled at Fox

As expected, Scream Queens has been canceled at Fox after two seasons. The show will definitely be missed! Fortunately, Emma does have some new projects coming up!

‘Scream Queens’ Canceled at Fox After Two Seasons

“We have no plans at this point to go back there and tell more stories,” co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman told reporters Monday.

It appears to be the end of the road for Scream Queens.

On a conference call with reporters Monday to discuss its fall schedule, Fox co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman confirmed that there are no plans to bring back Ryan Murphy’s comedy-horror anthology series.

Scream Queens was an anthological series,” Newman said. “It feels as if it was a compete story. We have no plans at this point to go back there and tell more stories so we won’t be seeing Scream Queens this season.”

Not even one of the most powerful showrunners working in TV could keep the softly rated Scream Queens on the air. Though it had a following, one Fox brass emphasized was young and heavily multiplatform, linear ratings were weak, the second season of Scream Queens only averaged a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers with live-plus-seven returns.

Scream Queens was one of the first big swings for Fox TV Group chairmen Dana Walden and Newman. They gave the 20th TV horror-comedy a straight-to-series order shortly after assuming control of the broadcast network. But it never quite lived up to all of the promotion.

The starry cast should be fine. Billie Lourd, for one, has already lined up a role in the upcoming seventh installment of Murphy’s American Horror Story, and Lea Michele is starring in the ABC comedy The Mayor, among others. And weep not for Murphy. He has a half-dozen thriving anthologies on cable sibling FX, in addition to the procedural drama 911, which was picked up to series by Fox last week.

Emma Roberts, Michael Angarano to StarIn a Relationship in ‘In a Relationship’

The project is based on the short film with the same name, which starred Dakota Johnson that Boyd also wrote and directed.

Scream Queens star Emma Roberts and The Knick’s Michael Angarano have wrapped starring turns in the romantic comedy In a Relationship.

Dree Hemingway and The OA breakout Patrick Gibson are also starring in the indie, which Sam Boyd wrote and directed.

The project is based on the short film with the same name, which starred Dakota Johnson that Boyd also wrote and directed. It garnered more than 800,000 views after premiering on Vogue’s digital channel in 2015 and followed two couples who find themselves in opposite stages of love.

Jay Ellis, Janet Montgomery, Greta Lee, Gayle Rankin, Sasha Spielberg, Andre Hyland, Domo Genesis, Luka Jones and Melora Walters round out the cast.

“In my relationship and in my friends’ relationships, the problems that arise are usually simple: we love each other but I’m me, and you’re you,” Boyd said. “It was important to me to make a film about the things that really come between young people – what they really fight about and what they’re really afraid of.”

Boyd is producing with Jorge Garcia Castro, David Hunter, and Ross Putman alongside 2 Friends Media founders Sergio Cortes Gomez and Andres Icaza Ballesteros.

Roberts is an exec producer as is Karah Preiss. David Sweeney is a co-exec producer.

CAA packaged the film and is repping sales.

Roberts last starred in the thriller Nerve, with James Franco, and has several movies in the can, including The Billionaire Boys Club with Taron Egerton. She is repped by CAA and Sweeney Entertainment.

“Scream Queens” Cast Talks Season 2

Scream Queens Cast Talks Season 2’s ‘Fast Right Turn,’ as John Stamos Teases His ‘Arrogant’ Doc’s Secret

Shhhh! Jamie Lee Curtis is trying to answer some questions!

The Scream Queens star stepped away from a Q&A with Michael Ausiello to drop a “STFU” on some rowdy interlopers outside TVLine’s Comic-Con studio presented by ZTE.

Fret not, though, the Golden Globe-winning actress was in otherwise jolly spirits as she joined the cast of Fox’s horror-comedy — including Lea Michele, Emma Roberts and incoming players John Stamos and Taylor Lautner — to tease Season 2’s hospital-based storyline.

While the move away from Season 1’s sorority-based action might sound strange on paper, Curtis says “it makes sense” once you read the season premiere script.

If that’s not enough scoop, Roberts hints her Chanel Oberlin might hook up with both Stamos and Lautner’s alter-egos; Stamos reveals his character’s most surprising physical attribute; and Billie Lourd and Keke Palmer share their favorite one-liners they’ve filmed thus far.

Yahoo Celebrity Interview with Emma

Emma Roberts on the Downside of a GIF-Worthy Performance

Thanks to her partnership with Ryan Murphy, Emma Roberts has emerged as one of the ultimate on-screen mean girls. However, in her real life, Roberts is far less likely to make you cry, unless it’s tears of jealousy for her enviable style. Fortunately, for the month of December, Roberts has partnered with Covet Fashion as its first Covet Host. Starting today and into the month of January, you’ll be able to play as Emma Roberts in the app, styling her for a day in her life.

Yahoo Celebrity spoke to Roberts about her own personal style, that “surprise b*tch” meme, and, of course, we begged her to give us spoilers about the upcoming finale of Scream Queens.

Yahoo Celebrity: Tell me a little bit about this partnership with Covet Fashion.
Emma Roberts: Basically I’m Covet’s host for the month of December, and people can go on the app and dress me for all different kinds of occasions. It’s basically, they get to see a day in the life and also get to see my style and they get to pick from different pieces that I love and put them together on me the way they want to for different events. It’s anything from me getting coffee to me going to a red carpet event.

So if there’s a photo of you getting coffee and someone says, “Oh I love those shorts,” can they then find out how to get them?
ER: Yeah, exactly. Covet has so many brands, I think like over 150 brands on their app, and so you can pick from all different kinds of designers and brands and casual or dressy and also kind of get to see what I like to wear to all these different things so it’s a lot of fun.
